Review Of Reese’s Nutrageous 1L

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were invented way back in 1928. Since then, the brand has expanded into a sweet snack powerhouse.

Are you wondering if Reese’s Nutrageous Peanut Butter, Peanuts, Chocolate Flavour & Caramel is any good? I bought a tub to find out if this frozen dessert is worth the money.

What is Reese’s Nutrageous?

Reese’s Nutrageous is a reduced fat chocolate and peanut butter flavoured ice cream. It’s also got ribbons of caramel sauce running through the tub and small bits of diced peanut. This frozen dessert has 40% less fat than regular ice cream.

Is Reese’s Nutrageous any good?

Reese’s Nutrageous is an enjoyable tub of low fat ice cream. The chocolate and peanut butter flavour combination is excellent. A salty hit from the peanut ice cream makes this sweet frozen dessert much easier to eat.

The caramel sauce is deliciously oozy straight from the freezer. It makes up 10% of the tub, so some decent sized wells are waiting to be discovered further down the container.

The caramel sauce is delicious.

No ice cream is perfect, though, including Reese’s Nutrageous. While its texture is smooth and creamy, it has a foamy consistency that won’t compete with more premium ice creams.

There are also a lot of ingredients for such a simple ice cream. The list of emulsifiers, flavours, colours, and thickeners drags on. While not a concern for some, it’s not ideal if you value a clean ingredient list.

Ingredients

Fresh milk and cream are the main dairy ingredients used in this ice cream. 10% of the tub is caramel sauce, and 4.5% is Reese’s Peanut Butter. Diced peanuts make up 4% of the product.

Ingredients List: Fresh milk, sugar, water, fresh cream (milk) (6%), peanuts (6%), glucose syrup, milk solids, maltodextrin, dextrose, emulsifiers (422, 477, 471), peanut oil, cocoa solids, thickeners (1442, pectin, guar gum, processed eucheuma seaweed), salt, colours (caramel iii & iv, curcumin, carotene), flavour, malt powder (barley), acidity regulators (citric acid, 319, 339), burnt sugar.

Milk fat

Milk fat plays a vital role in ice cream’s texture and mouthfeel. More of it results in a creamier, smoother texture associated with superior ice cream.

Nutrageous has less than 10% milk fat, so it doesn’t have the indulgent consistency of more expensive brands. However, it’s still enjoyable.

Did you know? Ice cream products sold in Australia with less than 10% milk fat can’t label the front of pack “ice cream”.
