Review Of Magnum Luxe Gold Caramelised Chocolate 440ml
Magnum first launched back in 1989 and quickly became an Aussie favourite. While the brand is best known for its ice cream stick range, they also make tubs.
This review looks at whether the Magnum Luxe Gold Caramelised Chocolate 440ml lives up to its reputation and price point. I’ll help you decide if it’s worth a place in your freezer.
Is Magnum Luxe Gold Caramelised Chocolate Ice Cream any good?
Magnum Luxe Gold Caramelised Chocolate features biscuit flavoured ice cream with ribbons of toffee cinnamon flavoured sauce. Biscuit pieces are scattered through the tub, which adds some delicious crunch.
Like all the Magnum range, a shell of chocolate encases the ice cream. However, this tub raises the bar to a new level. The chocolate is caramelised and super tasty.
Chocolate shards lie hidden through the tub, and they’re not hard to find. Use them as edible spoons to scoop up the ice cream.
The ice cream is creamy and smooth, although less premium than most other pint-sized ice creams in the supermarket freezers.
At over $10 for a 440ml container, it won’t fit everyone’s budget.
Pros
- The sauce and biscuits are a nice combination.
- Cracking the outer shell is surprisingly fun.
- Supports the Rainforest Alliance and the use of recycled plastic.
- Made in Australia.
Cons
- A long ingredient list.
- Expensive for the pack size.
- Minimal locally sourced ingredients.
What other flavours are available in the Magnum tub range?
A lot of flavour innovation is coming out of the Magnum range, so it’s best to check out the supermarket shelves to stay on top of their latest. Some of their tub range includes:
- Magnum Sweet & Salty Almond Remix Review.
- Magnum Classic Review.
- Magnum Luxe Salted Caramel Review.
- Magnum White Chocolate.
- Magnum White Chocolate and Cookies.
What are some alternatives?
The Magnum range is a unique offering, so there aren’t any similar competing products for comparison.
Ingredients
The main dairy components are reconstituted skim milk, cream, milk solids, and butter.
- 21% of the ice cream is caramelised chocolate shell.
- 11% of the ice cream is toffee cinnamon flavoured sauce.
- 1% of the ice cream is biscuit pieces.
Ingredients List: Dairy ingredients [reconstituted skim milk, cream, milk solids, butter], sugar, glucose fructose syrup, glucose, cocoa components (5%) (cocoa butter, cocoa mass), water, caramelised sugar, stabilisers (modified maise starch, guar gum, locust bean gum, tara gum, carrageenan, xanthan gum), emulsifiers (mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, polyglycerol polyricinoleate, sunflower or rapeseed lecithin), wheat flour, pecan, flavours, sunflower oil, salt, caramel syrup, cinnamon powder, colour (caramel), food acid (lactic).
Milk fat
Milk fat plays a vital role in ice cream’s texture and mouthfeel. More of it results in a creamier, smoother texture associated with superior ice cream.
Unfortunately, the Magnum pack doesn’t disclose how much milk fat is in the tub.
