Review Of Indulge Mint And Cookies Ice Cream 1L

Super-premium brands like Haagen-Dazs make impressive ice cream, but they’re not cheap. If you want something fancy without paying a fortune, Aldi’s Indulge ice cream tubs may be up your alley.

I bought every tub in their range and got busy eating. This review looks at the Indulge Mint and Cookies Ice Cream 1L. Find out if it’s worth a space in your freezer.

Is the ice cream any good?

A one-litre container of Indulge Mint and Cookies Ice Cream offers excellent value for money. The ice cream is creamy and smooth with a punchy mint flavour.

At $5.99, I tried hard to find a chink in this tub’s armour. There weren’t many.

It’s common to see water as the main ingredient at this price. Some manufacturers churn loads of air into the tub to cut costs. But this ice cream passed all the tests.

It’s impressive ice cream for the price.

This product is made locally and contains 96% Australian ingredients. That’s a big tick. Most tubs are much lower. Some have 0%.

No ice cream is perfect. Indulge Mint and Cookies uses Hydrogenated Palm Oil. This is an ingredient many Australian consumers prefer to avoid, mostly due to sustainability issues.

Some people won’t enjoy the mint flavour. It’s strong and chemical-like. If you enjoy punchy mint, then you’ll love it. Others will struggle.

What alternatives are there in supermarkets?

Connoisseur Mint & Cookies 1L: Working out the difference between this tub and the Aldi product is tricky. It’s feels like Aldi has benchmarked the Connoisseur tub as they developed their own version.

Both tubs are the same pack size, have 13.5% milk fat and 10% cookies. Their ingredient lists are similar, although Connoisseur uses 30% cream while Indulge has 25%.

The biggest difference is the price, with Connoisseur costing roughly double.

Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie 458ml: Another excellent ice cream. However, you’ll pay almost triple the price of Indulge for less than half the amount of ice cream.

What other flavours are available in the Aldi Indulge range?

Other tubs in this range include:

  1. Indulge Vanilla Bean.
  2. Indulge Chocolate.
  3. Indulge Cookies and Cream.
  4. Indulge Coffee.

The primary ingredients in this tub are full cream milk and cream. Milk solids also add body to the frozen dessert, producing a softer texture that scoops easily.

Milk fat

Milk fat plays a vital role in the texture and mouthfeel of ice cream. More of it results in a creamier, smoother texture associated with superior products.

Indulge Mint Cookie Ice Cream contains 13.5% milk fat. That’s much higher than family-pack ice creams like Peters, Coles, Woolworths, or Streets Blue Ribbon. It also places it in a similar category to premium brands like Murray Street and Connoisseur, and super-premium brands like Haagen-Dazs.
