Review Of Much Moore Awesome Boysenberry Stracciatella Ice Cream 2L

Much Moore is a New Zealand brand that’s a relative newcomer to Australian supermarkets. Their “Awesome” range is sold in Woolworths, so I bought every flavour and put them to the test.

This is a review of the Awesome Boysenberry 2L. I’ll help you decide if it’s worth a spot in your freezer.

What is Much Moore Awesome Boysenberry?

Inside the tub is boysenberry flavoured ice cream with European style stracciatella chocolate flakes throughout. Ribbons of boysenberry ripple made from Nelson boysenberries run through the ice cream.

There is quite a lot of berry ripple.

Is the tub any good?

Awesome Boysenberry Stracciatella Ice Cream has a nice mix of sweet ice cream and flavour-packed berry sauce. If you enjoy lots of crunch and texture in ice cream, then the chocolate flakes should please.

There are creamier and smoother ice cream brands in supermarket freezers. But Much Moore isn’t competing in the premium category, so it’s not a bad dessert for the price.

While I enjoyed the boysenberry swirl, there were a lot of seeds. If you don’t like seeds or bits in your ice cream, this isn’t for you.

Summary customer feedback

Here’s a summary of some customer reviews floating around the internet.

Positives

The ice cream is repeatedly praised for its creamy texture and delicious flavour, particularly noting the balance of sweetness and tartness from the boysenberry and the crunch from the chocolate bits.

Negatives

Some less favourable reviews found the ice cream sickly sweet and too rich.

Texture was also a common critique. Several reviewers described the ice cream as icy rather than creamy, and many found the seeds unpleasant. Some suggested that removing the seeds could improve the product significantly.

What are some similar products to try?

Bulla Creamy Classics Ice Cream Vanilla & Boysenberry 2L: This pack is similar to Much Moore, with the same pack size and price. While the Bulla tub has 9% sauce, Much Moore has 18% and chocolate flakes. The Bulla tub contains fresh dairy; Much Moore uses milk solids.

Bulla Murray St Ice Creamery Vanilla & Boysenberry Swirl Ice Cream 1L: For more premium ice cream, choose Murray Street Ice Creamery’s Vanilla and Boysenberry Swirl. It costs a little more, but you get 12% milk fat, and it’s made with fresh milk and cream.

Maggie Beer Ice Cream White Chocolate Boysenberry Ripple 500ml: A product that sits in the super-premium category. It has 11% ripple and 4% white chocolate.
