Review Of Ben & Jerry’s Tiramisu Ice Cream 436ml

Ben & Jerry’s is renowned for creative flavours, often adding baked goods, candies, and sauce swirls to the pint. But is it good ice cream?

I sampled the entire B&J lineup to see if the ice cream matches the brand’s reputation. This review looks at Ben & Jerry’s Topped Tiramisu 436ml to help you decide if it deserves space in your freezer.

Is B&J Tiramisu any good?

Ben & Jerry’s Topped Tiramisu ice cream is an indulgent blend of mascarpone ice cream, chocolate ganache, espresso chunks, fudge swirl, and shortbread pieces.

The thick, creamy chocolate ganache is matched with punchy fudge chunks that offer a bitter coffee contrast. Unlike some B&J pints that are sweetness overload, the coffee is a nice balance.

The espresso flavour will probably be too much for coffee haters and most kids. They may prefer variants like Chocolate Brownie or Half Baked.

The coffee flavour is punchy.

As you’d expect from a premium product, the mascarpone ice cream base is creamy and indulgent. It has a dense and chewy texture. Unless you read the pack, you probably wouldn’t know it was mascarpone flavour.

Instead of traditional ladyfingers, crumbled soft shortbread pieces add a nice texture.

Overall, Tiramisu is good ice cream. Like most pints made by B&J, it’s made for those who love lots of mix-ins throughout the pack.

What are some alternatives?

Ben & Jerry’s Tiramisu is a unique flavour with little direct competition. Consider these products if you want something similar:

Connoisseur Café Grande 1L: Premium coffee ice cream with swirls of Grand Marnier Sauce and chocolate-coated almonds.

Woolworths Café Latte 473ml: A much cheaper ice cream with plenty of coffee flavour and Graham cracker biscuits.

Ingredients

Cream and concentrated skim milk are the main dairy ingredients for making this ice cream.

Ingredients List: Sugars (liquid sugar, sugar), cream (milk), concentrated skim milk, water, oils (soy, coconut), cocoa powder, wheat flour, egg (egg yolk, egg), corn syrup, butter (milk), chocolate liquor, mascarpone cheese (0.3%) (milk, cream (milk), citric acid), thickeners (pectin, guar gum, tapioca starch, carrageenan), coffee (0.2%), natural flavour, salt, non fat dry milk, emulsifier (soy lecithin), vanilla extract, raising agent (sodium bicarbonate), lactic acid, whole milk powder.

Milk fat

Milk fat plays a vital role in ice cream’s texture and mouthfeel. More of it results in a creamier, smoother texture associated with superior ice cream.

Unfortunately, B&J doesn’t disclose the milk fat percentage in their products. I reached out to the company to get this information, but they responded with:

“We cannot give you the exact amount, but it is greater than 10%, meaning it is ice cream under the Australian and New Zealand regulations (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code – Standard 2.5.6). We hope this information is helpful.”
