A pint of Ben & Jerry's Triple Caramel Chunk Ice Cream on a kitchen bench.

Review Of Ben & Jerry’s Triple Caramel Chunk Ice Cream 458ml

Ben & Jerry’s is an iconic ice cream brand loved for its imaginative range of flavours. Their pints frequently combine ingredients like chunks of baked goods, candies, and swirls of sauces.

I taste tested the entire range to work out if they live up to the hype. This review looks at Ben & Jerry’s Triple Caramel Chunk. Find out if it’s worth a spot in your freezer.

My freezer packed with B&J. Yep, it cost me a fortune.

Is B&J Triple Caramel Chunk any good?

Triple Caramel Chunk Ice Cream takes creamy caramel ice cream and adds gooey caramel swirls and chewy caramel chunks.

As you’d expect from a premium product, the ice cream is creamy and indulgent. Its dense and chewy texture is perfect combined with sweet gooey caramel.

While some chocolate turns hard and flavourless once frozen, the caramel chunks were excellent. Give them a few minutes at room temperature for best eating.

No ice cream id perfect. While I enjoyed this B&J pint, it’s costly. If you decide to buy a container, wait until it goes on promotion, preferably 50% off.

You’ll also find the ice cream melts fast. Cheaper brands with lots of extra air churned into them last much longer on the kitchen bench. So scoop quickly and get the container back in the freezer.

If you enjoy lots of extra mix-ins in your ice cream then this flavour should appeal, especially if you enjoy caramel. There are a lot of salted caramel brands in Australia, but this pint is unique.

Pros

  • Indulgent, dense ice cream.
  • Caramel chunks aren’t too hard.
  • Swirls of caramel sauce are delicious.

Cons

  • Expensive for the pack size.
  • Some will find it too sweet.
  • Melts super fast.
  • It’s not made in Australia.

What do other customers think of this ice cream?

I looked at hundreds of online reviews to see what others think of this product. Here’s a summary:

The reviews for this pint are mostly positive. Key highlights include its delicious taste, especially the generous caramel chunks. Many describe the ice cream as creamy and indulgent, perfect for a treat.

The majority of reviews are positive.

While the ice cream is generally well-received for its flavour and quality, the price point is a downside. Some rated it poorly, expressing disappointment over the cost and preferring an Australian-made, cheaper alternative.

Overall, most think the ice cream is excellent, but cost was a drawback.

The price is a concern for some reviewers.

What are some alternatives?

Ben & Jerry’s Triple Caramel Chunk is a unique flavour with little direct competition. Consider these products if you want something similar:

Haagen-Dazs Caramel Biscuit & Cream 457ml: A similarly priced super premium caramel ice cream with pieces of Lotus biscuit scattered throughout.

Bulla Murray St Caramel Swirl & Shortbread Pieces 1L: A premium one-litre tub of caramel ice cream with caramel sauce and shortbread pieces. It’s excellent ice cream, that’s roughly half the price.

Maggie Beer Chocolate & Salted Caramel 500ml: Chocolate ice cream with swirls of caramel and a scattering of Murray River salt flakes.

In Australia, there aren’t many similar alternatives.

Ingredients

Cream and skim milk are the main dairy ingredients for making this ice cream.

Ingredients List: Cream, skim milk, water, liquid sugar (sugar, water), corn syrup, sugar, egg yolks, coconut oil, butter (cream, salt), milk, cocoa (processed with alkali), salt, guar gum, carrageenan, vanilla extract, sodium bicarbonate, cocoa, soy lecithin, natural flavour.

Milk fat

Milk fat plays a vital role in ice cream’s texture and mouthfeel. More of it results in a creamier, smoother texture associated with superior ice cream.

Unfortunately, B&J doesn’t disclose the milk fat percentage in their products. I reached out to the company to get this information, but they responded with:

“We cannot give you the exact amount, but it is greater than 10%, which means that it is ice cream under the Australian and New Zealand regulations (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code – Standard 2.5.6). We hope this information is helpful.”
